Police Call – poetry

Police Call

is a silly term

used to demote

the manual removal

of unauthorized pine cones

from U.S. Army facilities

pinecones and cigarette butts

and anything else

that fell to the ground

without orders

written or verbal

starched green cotton

in contact with human flesh

over long periods of time

causes insanity

I used to despise police call, but after living in places where people litter like it was 1970’s in the US (oh yea, I was young, but I remember…) well, I wish I could herd up the violators, single file, double arm interval, and send them out to police!

It was all those unauthorized pine cones at Ft. Bragg. After a while you just start assuming that they are unauthorized because, after you ask the first thousand or so if they have written orders to be on the ground you just kinda go on autopilot.
